Forgiving the Player

The mod that I found that resonated with me the most for Stardew Valley was a mod that allowed you to place your chests anywhere and subsequently access those chests through your inventory. I think that this mod is so revolutionary because it allows the player to access their materials from anywhere as long as the chests are placed somewhere such as your house, coop, or mine. This ability certainly reduces the number of times you would have to return to one of those locations in case you forgot some sort of material that you ended up needing. This change definitely improves the quality of life of the game and finds the player wasting less time in the form of travel and spending more time performing meaningful actions to progress yourself throughout the game.

Apart from Stardew Valley, I would find this feature pretty useful in other games. A lot of the games that I play often feature large inventories, so this sort of “chests anywhere” mod is not completely necessary for those. For example, in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, this mod would not help me that much more since the inventory for swords, shields, materials, outfits, etc. in that game is already so expansive. Moreover, I am often breaking weapons and using materials in that game a lot, so there is often a lot of leftover room in inventories that just appears gradually. However, I would definitely find the “chests anywhere” mod useful in a game like Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I have just recently been playing that game a lot more frequently, and, while there are not chests in the game like there are in Stardew Valley, I do find often find myself running out of room very quickly in my inventory. This is mostly because the game, or at least what I like to do in the game, often involves catching a plethora of fish, insects, and deep sea creatures, as well as collecting materials such as rocks and weeds. This is what I find so fascinating about the Stardew Valley mod that I discovered: its convenience is so powerful and common that it could be applied to other games, since the annoyance of running back to some sort of base or home in games seems to be so ubiquitous.

Ultimately, I think that this “chests anywhere” mod, along with a lot of other mods that I stumbled upon, improves the quality of life of the game and makes it more convenient and less time consuming. When I am playing a game for hours on end, this idea certainly would come in handy, because at that point I would be so sick of running around and going back and forth. I also think that this mod is really smart because it allows for the player to make some error and not punish them for that. Again, when playing a life simulator such as Stardew Valley for hours on end, the player might make some mistakes, and any sort of inconvenience might seem like a big deal after playing it for so long, which is why I think this mod is so revolutionary and intelligent.
